Anatomy and Physiology I
Sophia Learning’s Anatomy and Physiology I course will give students an introduction to the human body. The course begins with topics like structural organization, anatomical terminology, and mechanisms that keep our systems regulated. Students will explore the primary levels of organization: chemical, cellular, and tissue. They will also investigate how body systems are uniquely designed for support, protection, movement, and stability. The course concludes with an in-depth look at the nervous system which helps to regulate and control the human body through the integration of multiple systems. It’s recommended that you complete this Anatomy and Physiology I lecture course simultaneously with Anatomy and Physiology I lab so you fully experience the application and real-world relevance of the subject.Important! Please plan ahead. While you can take as many Sophia courses as you’d like each month with your membership, you are only allowed to be active in two courses at a time. Taking this lecture course along with the Anatomy and Physiology I lab will occupy your two-course limit.
Anatomy and Physiology I Lab
Sophia Learning’s science lab courses are designed to be used with the accompanying lecture course, creating a robust investigation and journey into the natural sciences. It’s recommended that you complete this Anatomy and Physiology I Lab course simultaneously with Anatomy and Physiology I so you fully experience the application and real-world relevance of the subject. In this lab course, you’ll apply the scientific method, explore phenomena, and exercise critical thinking skills using virtual lab simulations from Labster, a leader in interactive science. All labs are performed online without any need for specialized science equipment. This lab course reinforces topics from the lecture course such as homeostatic control, body planes and sections, skin layers and organ anatomy, skeletal muscle movement, and the gross functions of the nervous system. To meet the lab requirement, you’ll be expected to write lab reports and answer formative quiz questions as you advance through the course.Important! Please plan ahead. While you can take as many Sophia courses as you’d like each month with your membership, you are only allowed to be active in two courses at a time. Taking this lab course along with the lecture course will occupy your two-course limit. This course requires a reliable internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer that meets minimum specifications.
Anatomy and Physiology II
Sophia Learning’s Anatomy and Physiology II course is a continuation of Anatomy and Physiology I. This course covers the structure and functions of the organ systems. The course begins with the cardiovascular system investigating topics such as; blood, the heart, blood vessels, and circulatory pathways. Students will explore the endocrine (hormones), lymphatic, immunity, and respiratory systems. They will also investigate how the body obtains energy and controls the composition of fluids with lessons about the digestive and urinary systems, metabolism, nutrition, as well as, fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance. The course concludes with an in-depth look at human reproductive systems, human development from a single cell to an infant, labor and birth, inheritance, and genetic disorders. It’s recommended that you complete this Anatomy and Physiology II lecture course simultaneously with the Anatomy and Physiology II lab so you fully experience the application and real-world relevance of the subject. It is also highly recommended that you complete the Anatomy and Physiology I lecture and lab previously before taking this course since many of the general concepts learned in Anatomy and Physiology I (levels of organization (chemical, cellular, and tissue), skeletal, muscle, and nervous systems) will continue into the organ systems of this course. Important! Please plan ahead. While you can take as many Sophia courses as you’d like each month with your membership, you are only allowed to be active in two courses at a time.
